Bomb Threats

If you receive the call, remain calm and get as much information from the caller as possible (Refer to the Bomb Threat Checklist below). It is important to keep the caller talking and on the phone as long as possible. Try to get the attention of someone else around you and alert them that you are receiving a bomb threat and to contact 911. If alone, do not rush the call, get as much information as you can, then call 911 immediately after the call. Once 911 has been notified, contact Building Management.

Dial 911. Tell the local Police or Fire Department

  • Building Address
    • 1919 North Loop West, Houston, Texas 77008
  • Your Name
  • Your company name
  • Your floor/suite number
  • Your telephone number
  • Exactly what the caller said from the Bomb Threat Checklist
  • Ask them to send a police officer to your office
  • Listen for instructions

Notify Building Management immediately after taking the call.

Tenants will be responsible for searching their leased premise since they are most familiar with items in their space and execute the Bomb Threat Search Plan as follows:

  1. Search for objects that seem out of place.
  2. Do not touch anything! DO NOT tamper with suspicious objects.
  3. If a suspicious object is discovered, please notify the Fire Department, who will assume full control of the operation.
  4. Based on direction from the police or appropriate law enforcement agency, evacuate occupants and guests immediately.
  5. Tenants electing to evacuate the building during a bomb threat must use the stairwells to evacuate.
  6. Do not allow anyone to return to their office until officially approved to do so.
  7. A bomb threat response plan must address the possibility of receiving bomb threats in writing or by telephone. While all threats should be taken seriously, your firm's response may depend on the circumstances present at any given time.

Bombs by Mail

Although bomb threats are usually associated with telephone calls or letters announcing that a bomb has been placed on the property, bombs are also sent via mail, special delivery or messenger services. Avoid human and property loss by being on alert for oddly addressed packages and unusual packages.
