RESPONDING TO ACTIVE SHOOTER ON PREMISES

If a staff member becomes aware of an active shooter on the property or in the building, they should leave everything behind and immediately evacuate the area:

RUN – Evacuate the building
  • Keep hands in the air
  • Contact 911 when safe
  • Follow directions of all public First Responders
HIDE – If unable to evacuate, shelter-in-place in a lockable room
  • Remain out of sight, barricade doors and turn out lights
  • Remain silent and silence mobile devices
  • Contact 911
If evacuation or shelter-in-place are not possible:
  • Call 911 and identify active shooter’s location
  • If unable to speak, leave the line open and allow responder dispatch to listen
  • Remain in secure locations until the First Responders arrive and give instructions.
  • FIGHT – Take action against the active shooter ONLY when your life is in imminent danger. Attempt to disrupt the active shooter by acting as aggressively as possible against them.
